Installing carpet

Carpet has become the standard floor covering for most rooms. Carpeting is sold in rolls, typically 12 ft (3.6 m) wide, that are cut before delivery and seamed when installed. When choosing carpet for your home, you need to consider more than just color and pattern, there are other factors to consider, including fiber content, type of pile, and durability. As a general rule, if carpet is absolutely an essential part of your home, then choose carpet made from natural fibers such as pure wool, cotton, hemp, jute, ramie, sisal, coir, or scagrass.

Careful planning and layout are critical steps for carpet installation. In large rooms where you might join together several pieces of carpet, a proper layout ensures that the seams will be invisible and fall in low-traffic areas. You can probably install your own carpeting if needed. However, it’s usually wiser to hire an experienced carpet installer. Most carpet installers are relatively affordable to hire.
